¡Viva México!

Illustrations for the exhibition ¡Viva México! at The Museum of World Culture (Världskulturmuseet) in Gothenburg and later at The Ethnographic Museum in Stockholm.
When doing this commission I got a lot of research material from the theme behind the exhibition and I complemented it with visual input from Mexican arts and crafts, both old and new.
In LIFE, you can see Quetzalcoatl, and Tezcatlipoca, two gods involved in Aztec creation myths. The pattern on her dress, as well as the plants and flowers in the background, are inspired by several textiles.
In DEATH, you can see Xolotl, and Huitzilopochtli, two gods involved in Aztec death and war myths. The pattern on the dress, as well as the plants and flowers in the background, are inspired by several textiles and Aztec codices.
The illustrations are both mounted on vertical blinds in the exhibition, so the visitor can switch between LIFE and DEATH, and used in a muted color palette on a circular mat as a centerpiece in the exhibition.
