Division Of Laura Lee Album Packaging Design

Client: Division of Laura Lee. Year: 2023.

Continuing the collaborative journey with Division Of Laura Lee, I had the privilege to conceptualize the vinyl LP reissue packaging for “At The Royal Club.” This album, originally released on CD in 1999, holds a significant place in the band’s discography, featuring a collection of tracks recorded between 1997–1998.

The primary aim was to pay homage to the original CD design while infusing it with contemporary elements. Having previously worked on their “Black City” album reissue and “Last Light” EP, the challenge was to maintain consistency in visual identity while ensuring each release had its unique appeal.

Drawing inspiration from the raw energy and gritty aesthetic of Division Of Laura Lee’s music, I opted for a visual approach that echoed the band’s sonic intensity. Utilizing high-contrast black & white imagery and coarse halftone dots. The cover photo by Tuomas Siirilä and live photos by Kristofer Pasanen underwent a transformative process, breathing new life into the visuals while retaining their original essence.

Typography played a pivotal role in creating visual impact and coherence within the design. Bold and clean letterforms were chosen to provide contrast to the textured imagery, ensuring readability and aesthetic appeal. The layout was carefully crafted to strike a balance between showcasing the album’s punk roots and maintaining a sense of visual harmony.

One of the distinctive features of this project was the decision to produce the entire package in black and white, including the vinyl itself, which boasted a striking “black & white splatter” vinyl.

I also designed artwork for a special “At The Royal Club” long sleeve t-shirt sold at the album release event.
